Russia identifies body fragments of Chechen terrorist Doku Umarov

Doku Umarov tsjetsj terroristThe identification of the terrorists, who were killed near the settlement of Dattykh, the Ingushetia Republic, will be impossible without the DNA expertise. Doku Umarov, a Chechen terrorist leader, is said to be among the bodies. Experts have already taken blood samples from Umarov’s close relatives for the expertise, The Kommersant newspaper wrote.

Avenue named after Putin appears in Chechen capital

An avenue in the center of the Chechen capital was renamed Sunday in honor of Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Chechnya’s pro-Moscow leader Ramzan Kadyrov said he was sure that 99% of the Chechen population trusted Putin and the Russian leadership.

“As a sign of the Chechen people’s gratitude, the Victory Avenue will now be renamed after the national leader – Vladimir Putin. This is our tribute to the person who has done so much for our country and for all of us,” Kadyrov said.

Chavez warns U.S. after getting Russian warplanes

President Hugo Chavez said Venezuela had taken delivery of 24 Russian Sukhoi fighter jets, and warned the U.S. Fourth Fleet that his country is ready to defend itself.

“We’ve received the 24 Sukhoi aircraft,” he said Sunday. “They’re for defensive purposes; we’re not going to attack anybody.”

The deal included training for pilots and crews, as well as missiles for the fighters.

Chavez said the Sukhoi missiles have far greater range than those of the U.S. F-16 fighter jet, and warned the U.S. Fourth Fleet to keep out of Venezuelan waters.
